Secretary of ICB 2018 drafted and presented a proposal on rationale of establishing an international
society on biomass and bioenergy in the meeting. This proposal was delivered to founders' meeting
participants and discussed at the meeting.
The objectives and activities in the proposal society are as followed,
1 to promote academic & industrial development in biomass (and related)
fields, by providing opportunity of an international forum of operating
international biomass conferences, publishing high level papers, as well as
providing professional training programs.
2 to host capacity development of young generation scientists and staff,
providing opportunities to work in an international association,
of implementing various projects as above.
-To have an official publication
-To have strong network with biomass and bioenergy industries with the participation of their high-
ranked official in the society
-To organize training and short courses
-To plan for mobility programs to allow participants or students to have more real-life experience in
-To promote research attachment at established labs of its members for research capacity upgrading
and expertise sharing
-To give certain recognitions to high-achievers in biomass science and technology
Many comments were made on defining the initial main focus of biomass sources to be started by the
new society (ISBB), for instance oil palm biomass and energy, as well as the specific niche of works,
which will be the scientific publication and conference. The self funding and continuity of the society are
very important. Therefore, all participants agreed that the preparation committee and secretariat, which
are hosted at SBRC IPB, Indonesia should check the feasibility, redundancy, and financial independency
to establish ISBB, and made these issues very clear before the legal establishment of ISBB undertook.
At the end of the meeting, all participants signed the proposal. The proposal and signatures is kept in
SBRC IPB as the initial secretariat and will be used for the document required to establish the ISBB.
